No, you device must support Java. Please feel free to contact us if you are not sure.
The Java application is free and the use of the website is free.
The catch is that unless you become a paid subscriber your scorecards will be
automatically deleted 21 days after they are submitted.
You can store unlimited courses and scorecards at Wireless18.
Any cards you have ever submitted to Wireless18 will be visible again in your
own personal scoreboard.
On most devices you can just choose Wireless18 from the device's
application menu and select update. Otherwise delete the old version and download
the new one.
You must download it directly via the Wireless18 application. So load up
the W18 application and...
- Select the item 'Course Menu' from the main menu.
- Select the item 'Get Course' from the course menu.
- On this 'FIND COURSE' screen enter the first few characters of the area
code (postcode, zip code) of the course you want to download (e.g. 7600) . Then
select the 'Find' item from the menu.
- The application will now connect to wireless18 server and look if any courses
are stored there that start with this code.
- If no courses are found for this code you will see the message 'Sorry no course
stored at W18 match this code'.
- If any courses are found that have this area code then there they are listed using the
following format - COURSE NAME (COUNTRY CODE) for example Wareham Golf
Club (UK).
- Select the course that you wish to download and select 'Load' item from the menu.
The information for thus course is then downloaded onto the phone.
To view the golf course information that is currently downloaded onto your phone...
- Select the item 'Course Menu' from the main menu.
- You will then see a screen that shows a scorecard containing information such as
Course Name and Par, SI and Distances for each hole.
- This is a scrollable screen so if your phone's display is to small to show all the
holes then just use the up & down arrows (or pointer device) of your phone to
scroll the card up and down.
- If you wish to adjust the size of the text on the screen press '*' until you get the size
that best suits you. There are 2 text sizes (medium & large).
If you register at the website you can then add the course details yourself. This
course can then be shared by all other wireless golfers.
On the 'keep score' screen press '#' to lock the devices keypad.
The data transferred is much smaller than an SMS message and on the average call plan
costs much less than one. The actual operations break down as...
1/. login(performed once per device) : 17 bytes sent / 4 bytes received
2/. Post round to website : 146 bytes sent / 24 bytes received
3/. Find Courses on website : 20 bytes sent / 20 bytes received
4/. Download Course onto phone : 20 bytes sent / 95 bytes received
Technical Details for Specific Handsets
Wireless18 is larger than 30 KB and the Nokia 6310i limits java
applications to 30KB. Please contact us and we will send you a smaller version that
will work.
V60i with old firmware can have problems installing. Updating the
firmware to at least version PHX8_G_03.12.04R will fix the problem. The firmware
version can be viewed under Settings -> Phone Status -> Other Information
-> S/W Version.
Problems tend to occur (memory full, app doesn't appear in "Games and Apps" folder, etc) when there is not enougth memory. If you can delete other Java application and reinstall Wireless18. It should appear in the "Games and Apps" folder.
Press the Menu key twice when entering text, and then
select your desired mode of text entry.
Older SE T610/T616 devices sold with R1* firmware exhibit
a number of serious bugs in the underlying J2ME implementation. If you are
experiencing NullPointerExceptions, we recommend upgrading to the R3* series of
firmware; you can get this done at any authorized Sony Ericsson service center or
service point.
You can check your particular firmware version with the following key
sequence: >*<<*<* (where the arrows mean push the joystick in the
indicated direction, and * means press the * key). From the Service menu,
select "Service Info." -> "SW Information". If the top line begins with
"R1", you have the old firmware.
The initial version of the Sony Ericsson P900 software
had some serious menuing problems, We recommend upgrading to the latest
software by going to the Sony
Ericsson Update Service and follow the instructions.
This can cause a problem, please re-install the application on your
phone's internal memory and try starting it again.
Make sure that you are using one of the preloaded screensavers or wallpappers that came with the phone.
If the problem persists, delete any unused wallpaper, pictures, ringtones and applications, reboot the phone and try to execute the application again.
Network-Related Issues
For any Java application to access the internet from your phone you must have GPRS enabled. So your first step is to check this is the case.
The easiest way to do this is to contact your Service Provider. A lot of providers will send a sms to your phone which sets this up for you.
-
Make sure GPRS is enabled on your phone.
-
Still doesn't work? Okay when GPRS was created on your phone an APN (access point) will
have been entered onto your phone with the GPRS connection details. Each APN on the
Sony Ericsson T6*0 phones have an unique identifier known as a CID. The CID can
be found by Selecting Connectivity -> Data comm -> Data accounts -> .
W18 works best if we connect through CID=1, so if the current APN associated with CID=1
is not a GPRS/Internet APN, simply create a new APN, copy the APN settings from the APN
associated with CID=1 and then copy your GPRS/Internet settings to the APN associated with CID=1.
-
Still doesn't work? Well make sure that you default connection is the GPRS one
and not a WAP connection. Go to Connectivity -> WAP options -> WAP profiles -> (Your GPRS profile name)
and set this as default.
With GPRS on these phone you may need to make sure that access point the phone
uses is an Internet access point rather than a WAP access point. You can find these
at Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> Access points. It is best to contact
you operator and ask them for the details to enter here for an internet access point.
If you find they are no help please contact us with your country and operator name
and we will try to find the details for you..
All Java applications on Motorola's V-series phones
require a special "Java Session" WebSession for network connectivity. This
WebSession is separate from any WAP or GPRS/Internet WebSessions you may
already have configured.
To create this new Web Session for used by Java applications
- Select Menu -> Web Access -> Web Sessions -> [New Entry]
- Name the new entry "Java Session", set all Service Types to "HTTP", and
enter the relevant GPRS APN information for your network operator
If you encounter the message "Browser setup is incomplete" when you are
configuring your Java Session, you can safely ignore it. The most important
fields to change are Service Types, GPRS APN, User Name, and Password
(last three are located at the very bottom of the WebSession setup page).
Blackberry Issues
This BlackBerry issue is encountered with Desktop Manager
v3.6. The workaround is to instead install Desktop Manager v3.6 Service Pack 2
(not Service Pack 1). Contact your carrier for this download and follow
their instructions.
Apparently the cd with desktop manager that comes with the
blackberry doesn't even have everything you need in order to communicate properly
with your blackberry. The only thing it lets you do is see the device and that is it.
An additional download is needed that can be found here...
This means you have answered "Deny this connection" along with
"Don't ask this again" checked on the HTTP network permissions popup.
To get around "Permission denied" on subsequent uses, you need to re-enable the
network permissions popup. The following set of steps is one way we've found to
re-enable BlackBerry's network permissions popup. To prevent any accidental
data loss, we recommend backing up your application data before
proceeding.
- Start the BlackBerry Desktop Manager
- Establish a serial or USB connection to your BlackBerry handheld
- Uninstall the affected application from your handheld:
- Start the Application Loader
- Uncheck the box next to the affected application in the "Handheld Applications Selection" list
- Click Next and then Finish to initiate the uninstall
- Erase the application's data from your handheld:
- Start the Application Loader
- Click Next twice until you arrive at the screen entitled "Completing the Application Loader Wizard"
- Click on the "Advanced..." button located in the lower right
- Check the "Erase all application data" checkbox and select Next to continue
- Leave the radio button on "Automatically backup the handheld application data..." and select Next to continue
- Click Finish to initiate the unload and reload of handheld application data
- Reinstall the affected application back onto your handheld:
- Start the Application Loader
- Recheck the box next to the affected application in the "Handheld Applications Selection" list
- Click Next and then Finish to initiate the reinstall
Next time you use the reinstalled application, you should
see the network permissions popup as per normal. Just make sure you "Allow
this connection".
This message indicates that Wireless18 could not successfully
connect to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) with Mobile Data Service (MDS).
Connections using BES/MDS require BES v3.5 or later for Microsoft Exchange, or
BES v2.2 or later for Lotus Domino. Mobile Data Service must be enabled on the BES.
If your BES fulfills these requirements, the issue may be that you do not have an
appropriate IPPP service book entry synchronized to your handheld. The current
list of service book entries can be viewed within Options (Swiss Army Knife
icon or Wrench icon). You may need to consult your system administrator for
help in synchronizing an appropriate service book entry and/or isolating the
connection problem further.
Simply upgrade to the latest versions of wireless18
Be sure that your BlackBerry has wireless turned on.
There can be a delay of 24 hours (or more) from the time
you order Nextel's BlackBerry Email and Web Plan, to the time when full data
services work on the handheld. Please try again tomorrow. (Note:
this error can occur even if your voice plan, BlackBerry email, and/or Nextel
Online are already activated - they're completely separate from the data
service Wireless18 requires.)
