The CONGU Handicap System

General
The CONGU Handicapping system is based on current game performance. Your last round score will generally affect your handicap. Maximum Handicaps are 28 male and 36 female
Adjusted Scores
When a card us used for handicap purposes it is first adjusted. Unlike the ESC under USGA, CONGU allows NETT double bogey (+2) maximum, on any hole (clause 19.8).
Starting Handicap
A starting handicap is assigned by using the best scorecard after the submission of three elligble (course played on has a CSS or SSS value) score cards. For these cards the No of strokes is limited, in that any hole score that is greater than a double bogey (2+ shots over the hole par) is reduced to a double bogey
Handicap Adjustments
For adjustment purposes the 'adjusted gross score' counts any score more than a NETT double bogey (off full handicap) as a NETT double bogey, so if a player scores a nine or a no-return on a par 5 where he received a shot (off full handicap), it will only count as an 8 for handicapping purposes. ( ie a NETT double bogey )

  1. Determine the Rounds Nett Differential (Adjusted Gross Score - Current Hcp).
  2. Determine what Category this Golfer falls into based on current hcp.
  3. If Nett Differential is greater than Golfers Category Buffer Zone add 0.1 to Golfers hcp.
  4. If Nett Differential Ranges from 0 to Buffer zone handicap is then unchanged.
  5. If Nett Differential is negative then for each shot less than 0, the Golfers hcp is reduced by the amount specified by the category he/she is currently in.
